In the Spotlight: UNLV and IT Leaders Demonstrate Innovative Technology at Education Summit

All eyes were on UNLV as leaders from UNLV Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Information Technology (IT) showcased UNLV’s innovative technology to educators from around the nation.

Over a dozen UNLV employees headed to Chicago to attend Salesforce’s annual Education Summit from March 10-12. The conference featured keynote sessions, panels, and demonstrations from trailblazers in higher education, including leaders from our very own IT team.

Kivanc Oner and Vito Rocco Make an Impact One Pie at a Time

Kivanc Oner and Vito Rocco had dozens of pies smashed in their faces by students, faculty, and staff during this year’s Pie on Pida event. Each pie represented a donation to the university as part of UNLV’s annual Rebels Give event, a 24-hour crowdfunding event that helps support the university and its various programs across campus. Established seven years ago, Rebels Give has now raised over $2.9 million in donations since its start to better support UNLV programs.

Alethea Inns and Maxine Franks Discuss Navigating AI at Local Cybersecurity Event

Alethea Inns and Maxine Franks delivered a presentation on artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity at Cyberjutsu Unplugged on Jan.25. Hosted by Cyberjutsu, a nonprofit organization that empowers women in the cybersecurity industry, the event focused on exploring careers and trending topics in technology with a variety of speakers, events, and training opportunities.

Celebrating IT Graduates Receiving Their Diploma This Winter

Several student workers and employees who work for UNLV Information Technology (IT) are celebrating their graduation at this year’s winter commencement held in the Thomas & Mack Center. Graduates earning their master’s and doctoral degrees will have their commencement on Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. Commencement for undergraduates will be held on Dec. 18 at corresponding times.

The Interview: Rakitha Perera

Everyone knows Rakitha Perera (‘20 BS Graphic Design and Media). He’s worked for the Information Technology (IT) team for 18 years and is part of the unofficial UNLV welcome committee. If you don’t know him personally, you know his work. His photos, graphic designs, and videos are up on digital screens around campus, incorporated into classroom technology interfaces, and used frequently on websites and social media posts.
