A new UNLV podcast is demystifying artificial intelligence (AI) while exploring its impact on higher education and everyday life.

The Real BS About AI is hosted by the information technology team’s Bob Soulliere, assistant vice president for digital services and solutions, and Alethea Inns, instructional technology support specialist. The title is a playful nod to the hosts’ initials and their mission to sift fact from fiction in the AI space.

Recorded in the Lied Library, the premiere episode introduces listeners to the hosts’ unconventional paths into the field. Inns’ journey was sparked by curiosity, with a background spanning from gemology to dance, while Soulliere’s was rooted in education, literature, and a willingness to “fail forward.”

The episode introduces the basics of AI and takes an inside look at UNLV’s current AI initiatives, including a campuswide ChatGPT pilot program. Soulliere and Inns stress the importance of data privacy, curiosity, and hands-on experimentation.

This isn’t about being experts,” Soulliere said. “It’s about exploring together, learning from mistakes, and helping others start further ahead than we did.”

With plans to release new episodes every two weeks, The Real BS About AI is set to become a hub for AI conversations at UNLV, combining humor, honesty, and practical tips for the campus community and beyond.
