Temporary Remote Software Licensing

UNLV is offering temporary access to download certain software during remote instruction. Faculty and staff can install these applications on their device at no cost or at educational discounts. Students can also use this service, or they can use RebelApps to virtually access 40+ software titles available in computer labs.

ArcGIS

Integrated collection of GIS software products for spatial analysis, data management, and mapping.

Faculty/Staff: Academic instructors teaching a course that uses ArcGIS can request a free license for themselves and the students to use during the semester by completing the temporary software request form.

Students: Students can request a free ArcGIS Online license by submitting the temporary software request form. Licenses are valid until 12/31/2020.


AutoDESK

3D design software for use in the architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, media and entertainment industries.

Faculty/Staff: Academic users can request a free license directly from AutoDESK. Users must register with their UNLVMail to acquire licenses.

Students: Students can request a free academic license directly from AutoDESK. Students must register with their Rebelmail to acquire licenses.


COMSOL

An interactive software environment for modeling and simulating scientific and engineering problems.

Free temporary licenses are no longer being offered.

Faculty/Staff: Visit the COMSOL page to review available licensing information and contact them directly for pricing.

Students: Use RebelApps to remotely access COMSOL via the virtual computer lab environment.

Mathematica

Integrated system for computation, modeling, simulation, visualization, development, documentation, and deployment.

Faculty/Staff: Users can purchase Mathematica for their UNLV-bacoded machine and request a free home-use license. Please specify in the comment field that a home-use license is needed. If you have already purchased Mathematica and need a home-use license, please contact the IT Help Desk.

Students: Mathematica is available remotely through RebelApps virtual computer labs.


MATLAB

High-level language and interactive environment that enables users to perform computationally intensive tasks faster than with traditional programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran.

Faculty, Staff, and Students: UNLV faculty, staff, and students conducting research may request a Matlab license from the College of Engineering. Approval is not guaranteed.

Enrolled students can also access Matlab in TBE A311 and TBE B367 on campus and through the Rebelapps Virtual Labs.


Office 365

Suite of Microsoft productivity applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Faculty/Staff: Free to request directly from Microsoft by signing up with a UNLVMail account to acquire a license.

Students: Free to request directly from Microsoft by signing up with a Rebelmail account to acquire a license.


Read&Write

Assists users in understanding written information and in writing their own documents through a number of assistive tools.

Faculty/Staff: Free to install on both university and personal machines.

Students: Free to install on both university and personal machines.

Licenses are provided courtesy of the Disability Resource Center.


SAS

Provides everything from traditional statistical analysis of variance and predictive modeling to exact methods and statistical visualization techniques.

Faculty/Staff: Users can request a free SAS home-use license from the IT Help Desk if they have SAS installed on their university machine. Academic users can also request a free license of SAS University Edition directly from SAS.

Students: Users can request a free license of SAS University Edition directly from SAS.

IMPORTANT: SAS University Edition does not have the same extensions as the UNLV campus license. It is a limited version compared to the paid-version that is installed on university machines.


SketchUp

3D software that combines a simple, yet robust tool-set with an intelligent drawing system that streamlines and simplifies 3D design.

Faculty, Staff, and Students: Please see Sketchup educational pricing for information on purchasing the software for academic or non-academic personal use.


Snagit

Screen capture software to let you take screenshots and record video from your screen. Annotate images and video with voiceover and markup tools.

SPSS

Used to compute statistics resulting from research projects.

Free temporary licenses are no longer being offered.

Faculty/Staff: Employees who have a valid academic license of SPSS installed on their university computer are also entitled to use (1) license at home at no additional cost.

Students: Use RebelApps to remotely access SPSS via the virtual computer lab environment.
