Campus Computer Labs Have Reduced Hours During Winter Break

As the fall semester comes to an end, many UNLV students, faculty members, and staff are dreaming of the long winter break. Many are already preparing for the holidays - checking things off their gift list - but they should also make note of campus winter break closures and reduced hours.

Winter vacation runs from Dec. 16 to Jan. 21. For those who are staying on campus during this time, the UNLV Office of Information Technology (OIT) is opening two of its computer labs.

Although many choose to go home for the holidays, we recognize students may have the need to be on campus during the winter break. For this reason, we are providing accommodations for students’ computing needs by providing a computer lab for their use.

Elvis Rowe - Computer Facilities Supervisor

CBC-B 131 is open between Dec. 17 to Jan. 4, with the SU 233 lab available from Jan. 7 to Jan. 18. Both locations are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed weekends and holidays.

According to Rowe, the reason behind the decision to split the schedule between two labs was an easy one. “The computer lab in the student union is closed at the beginning of the winter break because the Student Union & Event Services team is installing new carpet. Performing this work in December ensures the least amount of impact and disturbance for students.” The project is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

All campus computer labs are scheduled to resume normal business hours when the spring semester begins on Jan. 22. A full list of labs, including available technology and software, is located at
