Section 1: Governance and Planning

IT Master Plan initiatives in Section 1 focus on building a strong governance structure led by a new CIO with the vision to unite the technology community, oversee strategic technology planning and prioritize resources, thereby transforming IT from a foundational service to a key strategic asset.

Highlights of Progress

  • Governance committees proposed in the IT Master Plan are meeting regularly:
    • Group memberships represent a broad cross section of campus needs and expertise
    • Technology Advisory Committee overseeing the Plan implementation is comprised of high-level campus leaders who possess the knowledge and expertise to align the UNLV’s technology investment with Pathway Goals and Top Tier plans
    • All committees are working on implementation of FY18 goals
  • An annual roadmap for implementing Plan action items has been published
  • IT Master Plan website provides information to campus constituents
  • Campus engagement sessions to increase awareness of the Plan and the new IT Governance structures were completed in Fall 2017
  • UNLV has instituted an annual planning cycle that:
    • Aligns with academic and fiscal planning cycles
    • Includes reporting to inform campus of progress on implementing campus technology plans
    • Encourages increased campus participation in IT decision-making by actively soliciting feedback on technology plans
  • Approval and funding for the CIO position has been secured

Highlights of progress provide timely transparency into the continuous improvement of UNLV’s technology environment. More formal Progress Reports, which evaluate performance against key measures of success listed within each initiative, are released each Spring and Fall. The first formal Progress Report is scheduled for release April 15, 2018.
